Exploring San Jose del Cabo

So, we just got back form the most epic stay at Paradisus Los Cabos, our favorite all-inclusive resort to date. It has everything - gorgeous rooms, amazing food, swim-up pools, tons of amenities, the BEST margaritas… we could go on and on. Another thing that they have going for them is the LOCATION. Located just ten minutes away from San José del Cabo and thirty minutes from Cabo San Lucas, it’s the perfect spot to feel “away” from the madness yet “close enough” to explore! During our stay we decided to spend a day in San José del Cabo, partially because it’s so close, but also because it’s one of our favorite towns in Mexico. Here’s why:

It’s SO CUTE

Ok, so this may sound like an obvious reason, but it’s so true. San José del Cabo is REALLY cute. From the moment you first enter the main square you’re hooked. The cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, eclectic shops and restaurants, it’s like out of a movie! It’s the perfect mix of “touristy” (cute shops, easy to get to, safe) and authentic Mexico. You can be shopping in a touristy store, and then next door is a local wine shop. There’s truly something for everyone in this small town!

It’s A SHOPPER’S DREAM

Which leads us to the shopping… it’s AMAZING. Now, we’re not normally big shoppers when we travel. But we love shopping in San José del Cabo. You can find handcrafted art and home decor that is not only really fun and colorful, but awesome quality too! Keep in mind that you may be spending a little more than other touristy areas, but you get what you pay for. Most of what we saw was authentic and worth the extra couple of dollars (or pesos). If you’re in the market for bright and colorful decor, bring an extra suitcase with you. The options are ENDLESS!

It’s QUIET

Maybe we luck out every time we come to town, but so far every time we’ve visited San José del Cabo it’s been relatively empty… in a good way! A town this cute could instantly feel like Disneyland if it’s crowded, but so far we’ve seemed to avoid the crowds. It almost felt as though we’ve had the town to ourselves - hence all of our selfie photos! Keep in mind we have always visited on a weekday, so plan your schedule accordingly. We recommend hanging at Paradisus during the weekend, and spending a Monday or Tuesday in town. Bypass the crowds, walk around, take some pics, and enjoy having the town of San José del Cabo to YOURSELVES! You won’t regret it!

It’s EASY

Like we said earlier, San José del Cabo is only a short ten-minute drive from Paradisus Los Cabos - making it a quick and hassle-free spot to explore. You really only need a couple of hours to walk around town, so oftentimes we’ll just go for the morning! You can definitely make a day out of it, however, if you’re eating and drinking there as well. (We just always miss the food at Paradisus, so we try to get back for lunch.) It’s typically a $25 taxi ride each way, so make sure you bring some cash with you! Most places in town accept credit cards, but we always try to take more cash than we need just in case. You never know what kind of souvenirs you’ll find. ;)

There are so many more reasons why you should explore San José del Cabo during your next trip to Paradisus Los Cabos. We could go on and on about how we like it more than Cabo San Lucas (we do!), how it’s a photographers dream (so much color!), how the Flora Farms store has the best homemade lotions and creams, and how good the popsicles are (go to Citlalmina and get the mango one!)… but we digress. Moral of the story is that you should go and explore for yourselves. And then comment back and share about your favorite places so we can go next time!

Oh, and did we mention that we did this trip in JANUARY? The weather was perfect and the crowds were nonexistent. So insider tip: January is a good month to go to Paradisus Los Cabos! (But honestly, EVERY month is a good month to go!)

Thank you to Paradisus for sponsoring this post!
